This week, we have begun writing a biography on Mary Anning. We have learnt that a biography is a description of someone’s life. They are non-fiction and written in chronological order. In maths, we have been recapping bridging 100. We have been practising our times tables daily too. We have been looking at swing music in topic. We have grouped the instrument into families before making our own tunes.

This week, we finished our narrative based on ‘The lion, the witch and the wardrobe’. We wrote our own narrative based on someone travelling through a portal. In maths, we have been looking at numbers to 1000 on a number line. In topic, we have been cooking Trench Stew- yummy!

In maths, we have been counting across 100. In topic, we finished our anderson shelters and have started learning about evacuation.

This week, we finished our diary writing in English. In maths, we have been multiplying, learning how many 1s, 10s, 20s and 50s make 100. We have then used this knowledge to add complements to 100. In topic, this week we have been preparing for our Remembrance assembly which I’m sure you’ll agree the children did really well with. Have a lovely weekend. We have had a busy but great first week back. All the class did really well at the multi skills event on Monday and twice we were told we were the best group! This week we have been diary writing in English. We have looked at the features of a diary. In maths we have been adding measurements and using partitioning to help us solve subtractions. This week we have had a PSHE and RE focus in the afternoons. We have been looking at emotions and how to manage different situations.

I can’t believe the first half term is complete! We have been super busy this week. We enjoyed harvest celebrations on Tuesday, where we went into our house groups and completed pumpkin and corn craft, and had a great assembly from Reverand Joanna. We also have learnt more about the impacts of The Blitz in topic and started to look at air raid shelters and their uses – ready to build them after half term! In English this week, we have been writing a narrative based on ‘The Lion and the Unicorn.’ We have focussed on setting descriptions. In maths, we have been recapping finding the difference between numbers, finding missing numbers and pictograms. In topic this week, we have looked at what life was like for evacuees. Next week, we will be making air raid shelters. If you have any thin card we could use, please send it in.

This week we have finished our journalistic skills by writing our own newspaper report. In maths, we have been adding and subtracting multiples of ten and using known number facts to help us solve questions. We have been getting creative this week in topic. We have experimented with tone and tint to create a watercolour based picture of the Battle of Britain.

This week we have been journalists and started to write a newspaper report based on the story ‘Goodnight Mister Tom.’ We have looked at the features of a newspaper report. In maths, we have been using known number facts to add and subtract. We have also been making multiples of 10. In topic, we have researched influential Battle of Britain pilots.

We have worked so hard in Whoville Class this week. We wrote an independent write based on the narrative Little Ships. I was very impressed with how well everyone worked. In maths, we have been finding the difference between amounts and working out missing numbers. In topic, we have been comparing the Spitfire and the Messerschmitt.
