Head of School update

This week at school….

It has been a short week..

With Monday being a public holiday, this week has flown by.

Our new houses and points reward system in school has gone down really well and the children are already earning merits. The children are all looking forward to earning and spending the fruits of their hard work!

Next week is the start of a number of parent events that we will be holding in school. You will see them in the calendar and we will send reminders.  There are a number of letters this week so please do read them to keep up to date with the latest news.  All information is available on the school website.

Uniform reminder:  Please ensure children are wearing the correct uniform and PE kit.

Coats and warmer clothing:  Now that Autumn has well and truly arrived please send your child in with a warm, preferably rain proof coat every day.

School Money:  The platform is now running normally. Please ensure you book your child’s lunches in good time.  If you do not book a lunch for your child, then we will call and ask you to bring in a packed lunch from home.

This week at school….

The Weather has arrived!

We have had a busy week in school and the children have adapted well to being back in their routines. We have been particularly impressed with how well our new Reception children have done in their first full week of school. From playing on the field with the whole Infant and Junior Schools, going to assembly and eating lunch in the hall, they’ve done amazingly! Please check out the class updates to see what they have all been doing.

Friday afternoon saw our Eco Warriors from Year 6 harvesting apples, pears and plums from the trees in our grounds and running a stall to hand these out for free to parents and children.  We hope you enjoy the “fruits” of their labour!

This week, we have also launched our new houses and points reward system in school. The children each voted for the House names and with 80% of the vote, chose to name our houses after book characters – Gruffalo, Potter, Paddington and Matilda. We have relaunched our reward points and the children will now receive Mundesley Merits! Our merits are a mark of excellence and can be earned in different ways around school and for reading at home. Each read at home will earn the children a merit, up to 5 merits a week. These merits can then be used to purchase items from the new Mundesley Merit Book Shop, as well as house rewards. See the assembly powerpoint on the website for more details.

Uniform: A further reminder letter will be sent out next week. We will be working with children and parents to support this.  If you have any queries about uniform please check the parent area of the website for information.

Coats and warmer clothing:  Now that Autumn has well and truly arrived please send your child in with a warm, preferably rain proof coat every day.  We are out with the children whatever the weather so they really do need a coat each day. We may call home and ask you to bring a coat in.  All the children have lockers so they can always pop them in their bag and leave them in the locker.  In addition, if children want to bring wellies in they may, though they will need trainers to go on the play equipment as wellies do not provide any “grip”.

Last day of term:  Whilst it may seem early, please note that the last day of this term is Thursday 20 October.  The term calendar is available on the website.

School Money:  The platform is now running normally. Please ensure you book your child’s lunches in good time.  If you do not book a lunch for your child, then we will call and ask you to bring in a packed lunch from home.

Reminders:

Monday:   SCHOOL CLOSED – PUBLIC HOLIDAY for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II state funeral

Tuesday  :  MJS Free Afterschool Football club

Wednesday

Thursday  : MIS Free Afterschool Multisports club

Friday  :  Swimming for Year 6

This week at school….

The end of this week has, of course, been marked with the sad news of the death of Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II.   We will be supporting the children during this period of official mourning if they have questions.  The school will remain open as usual, if anything changes then we will of course be in contact.  During our all school assembly I was incredibly proud of the mature and respectful behaviour of every child as we remembered the life of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.  The Queen’s life of duty and service to the country is a great example to us all and underpins our British values.  We extend our condolences to everyone who is feeling the effect of her passing.

In school it has been lovely to see all our children and parents back after the long summer holidays.  This year we were so lucky with the weather and all the staff have enjoyed listening to the children’s experiences of fun on the beach, in parks and around our lovely county spending time with family and friends.

The children have all settled in well to their new classes and we are very proud of how they have embraced a return to learning in school so quickly.

Uniform: Please read the letter sent out yesterday with all of our reminders on.  We will be working with children and parents to support this.  If you have any queries about uniform please check the parent area of the website for information.

Last day of term:  Whilst it may seem early, please note that the last day of this term is Thursday 20 October.  The term calendar is available on the website.

Clubs:  After school clubs will return for next week.  Please complete the surveys to book a place.  All applications are accepted in order and we will hold a waiting list if needed.

School Money:  Thank you for your patience while we experienced issues with the platform.  Now they have been resolved, please go on and rebook your child’s lunches.  Previous bookings will have been deleted.  We will send out a reminder each week.  If you do not book a lunch for your child, then please provide a packed lunch from home.

Reminders:

Monday

Tuesday  :  MJS Free Afterschool Football club – please complete the survey to book a place for your child

Wednesday

Thursday  : MIS Free Afterschool Multisports club – please complete the survey to book a place for your child

Friday  :  Swimming for Year 6

This week at school….

We are celebrating the end of term and the end of the academic year!

What a hot week we have had!  The children have all coped really well, and we were able to navigate through the heatwave without completely melting away – though it was a close call! Adopting a more “mediterranean” approach by staying in during the lunch times and going out early and later worked really well and the children were very resilient.

This week we saw the Year 2 performance delivered to our parents and then children and parents walked through a guard of honour by our Junior School children and staff to welcome them to the Juniors.  This was followed by a welcome assembly and the current Year 3 class sang a song for the Year 2’s.  There were a few misty eyes but the children did a fantastic job of presenting the “2042 reunion”.  Well done to everyone!

Thursday during the morning the year 6’s presented a full dress rehearsal of their leavers play to the Infant and Junior schools.  In the evening they did the full performance in front of their parents and guests and there was definitely a lump in many throats as they performed an emotional final song!  This afternoon we will see them in their very final leavers assembly.  We would like to wish them all our very best for their future and we will miss them all.

Movers and shakers:  We are saying goodbye and welcome to a number of staff at the end of this academic year and I am sure you will join me and all the staff of the schools in wishing them heartfelt thanks for their service for those that are moving on and a very warm welcome for our new staff.

PTFA UPDATE – We really cannot express enough how thankful we are for the support we have had from everyone. We have a super year lined up but in the meantime enjoy the summer holidays and a well deserved rest. From us all on the PTFA Committee.

P.S. Don’t forget it’s Freezer Friday Today (22nd) as it’s the last day of term. So grab your pound coins and come and find us in the infant school playground. Not only will you enjoy delicious ice cream, but you will also support our school.

All that remains is to wish you and your family all the best for a brilliant summer break and we look forward to welcoming you back on Tuesday 6th September!

We are having a heatwave……

It’s certainly been fantastic weather this week and we have been taking advantage of it but also taking care!

On Tuesday Robin and Owl class went to Bewilderwood. They had a brilliant time looking for twiggles and getting a chance to explore the woods. Photos are on the class update.

This week we have been able to share SATs results with our Year 6 parents and Year 2.  The children have worked so hard and we are all very proud of them.  End of year reports and details of next week’s transition days are coming home today so please take a chance to review them.  Monday and Tuesday are a rehearsal for children and parents to experience drop off, the school day and pick up in readiness for September.  Individual letters have been sent to Year 3 and 4 parents and for all other years a more generic letter.

PTFA UPDATE – Wow, there isn’t long to go now! We have our end-of-year newsletter going out next week and can’t wait for you to see what we already have planned for next year, what has been raised so far and some more exciting news!

Don’t forget it’s Freezer Friday Today (15th) and next week (22nd) as it’s the last day of term. So grab your pound coins and come and find us in the infant school playground. Not only will you enjoy delicious ice cream, but you will also support our school.

School library Books:  please ensure your child brings in any books they have borrowed from school on Monday.  We will be sending children’s work books home too over the next few days as we prepare for the close out of this year and look forward to September.

After school clubs:  Next week we will have after school clubs on Monday but no further clubs for the rest of the week.  Please see the reminders for events taking place.

Have a good week everyone.

This week at school….

Has been a week of adventures and trips.

On Monday and Tuesday our Year 6 children who are off to North Walsham High School went for their 2 days of transition. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday then saw most of Year 6 going to their residential at Hautbois Hall! Those children who remained in school had a fun-packed week full of activities, including baking some delicious cookies today! It’s been an action packed week for all of Year 6 and very quiet in school for the rest of the children!  Please see the Facebook page for photos and updates.

On Wednesday the Bumblebee Class went to Amazona Zoo. They had a brilliant time and were great animal detectives, learning all about the different species they saw.  Photos are on the facebook page so have a scroll through.

Sports Day Photos – I know these are eagerly awaited, the link to the gallery will be on our Facebook page – hopefully it shows just how much fun everyone had, it was lovely to revisit the event in pictures.

The Infant school took part in mini orienteering sessions outdoors earlier in the week.  Each class was tasked with reading a map and finding markers hidden around the school grounds.  Well done everyone you were amazing!

School Money: Please ensure that all balances have been brought up to date by the end of next week.  If you are having any system issues please contact the school office so we can resolve these for you. We will be chasing outstanding balances next week.

With only 2 weeks of term left, this week’s letters are all about our Year 2 and Year 6 Leavers arrangements.  Please take a look and complete the surveys where needed.  We are very much looking forward to seeing you and supporting our children as they transition into their next educational adventure!

Next week we will be sharing details of transition arrangements, end of year reports and final information for the year.  Have a good week and I hope to see you at the events next week.

On Monday the Junior school took part in mini orienteering sessions outdoors.  Each class was tasked with reading a map and finding markers hidden around the school grounds.  Well done everyone you were amazing! Next week will see the Infants have their sessions.

Monday afternoon saw us hosting an athletics event with 4 other schools attending.  Our children who attended did a brilliant job – the competition was tough but we still got a few medals for first place. You all made us proud.

On Tuesday we welcomed a representative from HSBC bank who led sessions with all of the children in MIJS, helping them understand in simple terms how money works in our society.  The children asked some very insightful questions and we hope to repeat this again next year.

Tuesday morning also saw us taking our Year 5 and 6s to North Walsham High School to see their production of Aladdin. The performance was fantastic and our children all thoroughly enjoyed it!

Thursday and Friday saw some of our Year 6 class attend their transition days at Cromer High School and next week Monday and Tuesday will be the same for those attending North Walsham High School.  We hope they all have a great time and look forward to hearing all about it next week.

End of term planning:  Over the next couple of weeks we will be finalising and then sending out confirmation of classes, staffing and events for the final days of this academic year.  We very much look forward to seeing you all again for some of these events as we say goodbye to some students and staff and welcome in new ones.

School Money: Please ensure that all balances have been brought up to date by the end of next week.  If you are having any system issues please contact the school office so we can resolve these for you. We will be chasing outstanding balances next week.
