In year 5, we have had a very creative week – designing and making headdresses for Notting Hill Carnival to celebrate Caribbean culture in the UK. The children designed pneumatic systems using syringes and tubing then used a variety of coloured cards and feathers to decorate them. They worked brilliantly!
In maths, we have revised our knowledge of decimals from years 3 and 4 ready to push on with year 5 decimal work. Overall this week, I have been very impressed with the children’s handwriting and spelling improvements – they have done really well to remember the spelling rules from last half term!
In english, we have started looking at the poem of the Highwayman by Alfred Noyes. We looked at the first 3 lines and created pieces of art as responses to show the atmosphere the poet has created to set the scene.
