Welcome to Malala Yousafzai Class

Welcome to Malala Yousafzai Class! We are a class of 24 Year 6 children and 2 TAs called Mrs Carlton-Paterson and Mrs Woodbridge. Our class teacher is called Miss Bugg. We are a class full of curious minds who love to think deeply about problems. We work collaboratively together to tackle all problems and remember that together we are team. In Year 6, we love to build our independence and begin to take responsibility in our school for things by adopting school roles. These include digital leaders, eco warriors, librarians, school council and leaders of houses.

What are we learning about this term?

In our topic this term, we shall be learning about Freedom and Justice. We will be exploring the Atlantic Slave trade, understanding different forms of inequality and how to protest against these. In art, we will be looking at the works of Banksy and creating a protest inspired collage. In music, we will be looking at the musical 'Hairspay' and understanding how the music evokes change by performing a famous song. Later in the unit, we will be discussing the importance of the suffragettes. In science, we will be investigating electricity and whether we could live without it!

In English, we will begin the term by writing an adventure story based on Shirley Hughes’ novel, ‘The Lion and the Unicorn’. We will look at a range of literature including ‘Letters from the Lighthouse’, ‘Goodnight Mister Tom’ and ‘The Little Ships’.

In Maths, we will be focusing on place value, securing knowledge of the four operations, and using our amazing problem-solving and reasoning skills to help us solve some tricky questions!
