I hope that you all had a lovely, well-deserved and restful Easter break and are raring to go for the new Summer term. This term our topic will be the ‘Mysterious Mayans’. We will be using a cross-curricular approach when learning about this ancient civilisation that lived in Mesoamerica (or Central America as we know it today). In English, we will be looking at the adventure book called The Explorer by Katherine Rundell and also the non-fiction book: Scott of the Antarctic by E & J Dowdeswell and Angela Seddon.
We are becoming great mathematicians and will continue to build our resilience and problem solving skills whilst recapping the 4 operations (addition, multiplication, subtraction and division).
This term, PE will continue to take place on a Thursday afternoon. Please can the children continue to come into school on a Thursday in their PE kits. We will be continuing to wear slippers inside the classroom so please remember to pack these.
I appreciate that it has been a difficult year with home/school learning and we really appreciate all of your support to date. At the start of every half-term the children will be given a ‘Homework Projects’ sheet. The homework tasks will be based around our learning theme: ‘The Mysterious Mayans’. It will be a mixture of English, History, Geography, Art and D&T activities. These tasks are optional and can be completed through the half-term at the children’s own pace. Each task completed will allow the children to gain house points and a certificate at the end of the term. Homework projects can be handed in at any time, however the last date to complete them is: 24/5/2021. The children will also have weekly spellings which they will be given on a Monday and then tested on a Friday. These will be issued on Google Classroom as well as the children receiving a paper copy to stick into their planners. We recommend that the children read at least 3 times a week at home. This could be novels, non-fiction books, comics or newspapers. The children can read independently or to an adult/guardian. We will be issuing reading records where you or the children can write what they’ve read. At the end of each week, we will be discussing and sharing good books that we are reading at home. The children are welcome to bring to school the books that they are reading. If the children fancy any maths, they are more than welcome to access their Times Tables Rockstar Accounts. The children will have their account information in their planners.
Thank you for all of your support throughout what has been a challenging year so far. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me: email@example.com
