Rosa Parks Class

Welcome to Rosa Parks Class

We are creative, collaborative and curious individuals who love to learn. We are resilient and are never afraid to make mistakes. This year, our class is named after Rosa Parks. In the 1950s, American black people were treated unfairly. Rosa Parks tried to change this. In 1955, Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on a bus for a white person. This started the Montgomery bus boycott. The bus boycott was only meant to last for one day. In the end it lasted over a year, until the law was changed. Her actions changed American history forever.

What are we learning about this term?

This term we are learning about the invaders and settlers of Britain. We start our learning off with the Anglo-Saxons. We will learn about how they impacted our local area and research place names to find any Anglo-Saxon influences which have stuck around! We will research about the amazing finds at Sutton Hoo and create replica artefacts in Art and Design to showcase in our virtual museum - we are hoping to create QR codes in computing for this event! After half term we will move on the Vikings. We will find out about their famous adventures across the sea and how they raided Britain of precious materials and resources.

In English, we will be writing some adventure stories based on the book 'Arthur and the Golden Rope'. We will also be looking at Beowulf, The Dragon's Hoard and How to Train a Dragon. In Maths, we will be focusing on Multiplication and Division and using our amazing problem solving and reasoning skills to help us solve some tricky questions!

This half term I have especially loved maths and have enjoyed learning about BIDMAS. I now know what order to work out my calculations! Science has also been really fun because we are learning about forces and magnets. I now know that magnets have a north and south side which attract and repel.

I think Rosa Parks class is amazing because of its teachers. They keep us safe and make the lessons really fun. They always tell us to be resilient when we are struggling on a hard question which is most likely to be in maths. They help us when we need it and always inspire and encourage us to do our best.

I like Rosa Parks class because in English we are learning about 'The Blue Umbrella' and in maths we are learning about our 4 and 8 times tables. I have really enjoyed science so far this term as we are learning about forces and magnets!
