Welcome to Kingfisher Class
Hello and welcome to Kingfisher class! We are a fun, lively and imaginative group of 27 pupils, led by our teacher Miss Pettifer and wonderful teaching assistants, Mrs Woodbridge and Mr Nearney. Our class creature is the Kingfisher which is unique, vibrant and colourful, just like the children you will find in our classroom. We are always up for a new challenge and constantly strive to achieve our best!
What are we learning about this term?
This term, we are learning about the Battle of Britain. We will introduce our topic by understanding the meaning of the key terms ‘invade’, ‘occupy’ and ‘defend’. We will then explore how countries across Europe built alliances before delving into the events of 1940. On the 15th September (Battle of Britain Day), we will learn about the role of RAF pilots and the battle for the skies, using a range of cross-curricular activities including role-play and art. After half-term, we will explore the effects that the war had on the lives of everyday people through a ‘living history’ experience, looking at the Blitz, rationing, air raids and ‘make do and mend’.
In English, we will begin the term by writing an adventure story based on Shirley Hughes’ novel, ‘The Lion and the Unicorn’. We will look at a range of literature including ‘Letters from the Lighthouse’, ‘Goodnight Mister Tom’ and ‘The Little Ships’.
In Maths, we will be focusing on place value, securing knowledge of the four operations, and using our amazing problem-solving and reasoning skills to help us solve some tricky questions!
I really enjoy being at Mundesley Junior School because the English is brilliant and at break time there is always someone to play with. Mundesley School is great, I love it!
I like MJS because we there are always really fun activities for us to do!
Being at MJS is great because the teachers are always nice and the lessons here are really fun. My favourites are Maths, English and Golden time!
