Pankhurst Class update

What a busy week we have had this week! We have been further practicing our direct speech in English, ensuring we are correctly punctuating our sentences. We have also been using time adverbials, relative clauses and simile to make our writing more interesting. We have been practicing these in order to help us with our independent long write on Friday! In maths we have been using Base 10 and place value grids to help us to explore powers of 10, and in our Topic we have been using different sources to help us to understand the the transatlantic slave trade in more depth. In PE we have been practicing our football skills.

This week we have dived straight into our new Topic: “Freedom and Justice” by having a fun mock trial where we put a teacher on trial ! In History we have looked at the Atlantic Slave trade and what life was like for enslaved people. In English, we have been looking at our new text for this term – “Holes” by Louis Sachar. We have been practicing our sentences and have been practicing our independent writing including the use of relative clauses and direct speech. In maths, we have been looking at Roman Numerals and place value numbers up to 1,000,000 !

Pankhurst Class update

I hope everyone has had an amazing summer holiday. We have all enjoyed hearing about the interesting things the class got up to. The Class have really enjoyed our “Learning to Learn” week where we have been learning about how the brain works, and how we can use the power of “Yet”. We have also learned about the “Learning Pit” and we have been sharing strategies to help us climb out of the pit. We have also been reminding ourselves of the JONK characteristics that help make us good learners: being resilient, reflective, resourceful, curious, creative and collaborative. On Friday we introduced our Topic for this Term – “Freedom and Justice”.
