This week we have continued our writing of ‘The Jungle Book.’ We have been using time adverbials and adjectives to make our writing more exciting. We are also trying to deepen the moment. In maths, we have looked at the multiplication symbol and what it means. We have also been making arrays to represent multiplications. In topic, we have been doing some Geography. This week we have looked at lines of longitude and latitude- including the Equator and Prime Meridian. In PE, we have now moved onto dance.

We have had a lovely few days back. All the children have come back with a ready to learn attitude. This week we have started ‘The Jungle Book’ in English. We are starting our writing part way through the story so we watched the film up until the point we will start writing from. We have also done some rainforest art- inspired by the layers of the rainforest. In maths, we have started multiplication and division. We have looked at making equal groups and the multiplication symbol. In topic, we have started our new topic ‘Resourceful Rainforests’. This week we have recapped the World’s continents and countries in Europe.

What a lovely week we have had this week. We have been working hard in English on our text ‘The Iron Man.’ This week we used personification to make our writing more exciting. In maths, we have been using place value grids to solve addition and subtraction questions. In PE, we worked in pairs to create a sequence on the equipment. This week, we have also designed a ‘Go Go Dinosaur’ each. We really enjoyed the movie and carol night. It was lovely to be able to have everyone together. We had a lovely day on Thursday making Christmas crafts, it definitely made us all feel Christmassy. Have a lovely break everyone – Merry Christmas!

We have been getting into the Christmas Spirit this week. Our elf is still with us and he has been very impressed with all the children’s work so far. This week we started a new text in English, called ‘The Iron Man’. We had an experience day where we drew him using charcoal. In maths, this week we have been looking at solving worded problems. We know that we should use RUCSAC to help us when solving worded problems (read, underline, choose, solve, answer, check). In PE this week, the children worked in pairs to create a sequence which included a roll, balance and jump. We have been rehearsing our Christmas song too and made headbands to wear during our performance.

What a great week! We have written and edited our independent writes based on ‘The street beneath my feet’. We have also been recapping column addition and subtraction. We had great fun during our Science Day on Wednesday. We had two special scientists skype us. One of them was a palaeontologist and the other was a petrologist (Can remember what these types of scientists do?). They told us some facts about fossils and also rocks. We spent the day with the Year 4s and participated in lots of different activities. We firstly looked at the three different types of rock: igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary. We then created these in the form of food. Igneous rock is made from hot lava that has cooled – we watched this process when our lovely teaching assistants showed us how to make honeycomb! We looked at the layers of sedimentary rock by making sandwiches. Metamorphic rock changes when it is heated so we made rock cakes. We also created some fossil art and then unfortunately (due to weather conditions) did a virtual rock survey of Mundesley via Google Maps! We have also been learning our Christmas songs and have sent an elf from the North Pole, who will be the new member of Hedgehog Class for December. Finally, to finish our week, we are going to go to the DINOSAUR PARK!

This week we finished our text ‘The street beneath my feet’ and started researching what is above our heads as we will be writing our own explanation text next week. In maths, we have been subtracting including crossing 10 and 100. We know that when this happens we have to borrow from another column. In science, we have started to look at rocks and fossils. We have been looking at their appearances and the different types of rocks. We will be identifying some on our walk.

What a lovely week we have had this week. We have been focussing on our wellbeing. We have made posters with inspirational quotes on, completed a yoga session, danced and sung together as part of the week. It has been lovely. We have also carried on with our non-fiction text, in English. We had an experience day this week where we made playdough as part of our learning about fossils. In Maths, we have still been adding and subtracting using the column method. We have also been on a trip to North Walsham High School, this week, where we had a talk on e-safety. In topic, we have been looking at the origins of rock music.

We have had a creative week in Hedgehog class. In English, we started to write our non-fiction text ‘The street beneath our feet’. Guided reading has been a little different this week. We have been looking at metocognition- thinking about thinking. We have been looking at real reading. Text + thinking + real reading. In maths, we have been using place value grid to help us with column addition. This week in gymnastics, we learnt how to do different types of rolls, including a pencil roll, side shoulder roll, forward roll and an egg roll. For Remembrance day, we have been making poppies and learning about their significance.
