Hawking Class update

This week we finished our narrative based on ‘Escape from Pompeii’ by writing an independent write. We included fronted adverbials and noun phrases. In guided reading we have been reading in pairs the text Roman Britain. It is a non-fiction text. In PE, this week we started tag rugby. In topic, we used sources to help us research why the Romans invaded Britain. In maths, we have been partitioning numbers up to 1000.

Hawking Class update

This week we have delved straight into our topic ‘The Romans’. In English, we have began writing a narrative based on the book ‘Escape from Pompeii’. We have used fronted adverbials, conjunctions and adjectives in our writing. We have also started a new handwriting scheme- cursive handwriting and I am very impressed with how well the children have adapted their handwriting. In maths, we have been looking at place value and what the difference is between place and value. We have been applying this knowledge to represent and partition number to 1000. In geography, we have used atlases to identify where the Romans came from and where they conquered. We have investigated how they invaded Britain and what made them successful.

Hawking Class update

I hope everyone had a lovely summer. We have had a lovely first week back and I have loved getting to know the new Stephen Hawking Class. This week has been our ‘Learning to Learn week. We have recapped our JONK characters, dived into the learning pit and explored the power of yet! We have also read the colour monster and each made our own colour monster. This is to help us recognise our feelings. On Friday, we also launched our topic for this term- The Romans.
