Power & Carbon Class Update w/e 7 February 2020

In year 5 this week, we have been learning about percentages and thousandths in decimals.  In year 6 we have been proving that the area of a triangle is half the area of the rectangle in which it fits, calculating the areas of parallelograms, and we have been exploring volume.  It has been a very hands on practical week with lots of cutting, sticking and making but it has been exactly what maths should be- FUN! In topic we have been experimenting with warm and cold colours and created some cactus montages in the style of Andy Warhol.  We also worked together as a class to write and perform a BBC documentary on ‘How people have adapted to live in a desert’ It took a lot of organising from the editing team but it was a great way to find out more about the Sahara, Mojave, Atacoma and Antarctic deserts to name just a few.  Well done Year 6 – a great week!
