We have had another great week in Year 1 and 2! In English, we have started reading The Snail and The Whale by Julia Donaldson. We have put ourselves in the shoes of the snail with the “itchy foot”, and have written a diary about why she wanted to leave her home and all the different places she visited with the great big, blue-grey humpback whale.
In maths, we have investigated fractions. We have been able to identify ½, ¼ of a shape, and some of us can even find ⅓, 2/4 and ¾ of shapes too! In Topic we’ve been investigating animal teeth from their skeletons, identifying and using our senses.
In Phonics and Spelling: Orcas with Mrs Duffield – recapping ey, au, o-e,and u-e; Seals with Mrs Laming and Miss Lumb looked at -ir, -all, -oo, -oi. Albatrosses with Miss Carman investigated the /l/ sound spelt ‘le’ at the end of words (bottle, little, muddle), and adding the suffixes ‘er’ and ‘est’ to words ending with ‘e’ (nicer, widest)
